Mark Bolzern. Why would you want him? In a sentence, Mark is Experienced, a Quick Learner, Capable, Loyal, Sociable, Obedient, Reliable, Enthusiastic, Organized, Resourceful, Honest and Hungry for a challenge. It is not about the technology or the tools... It is about the Results!

Mark has a rare combination of Technical and Business competencies. He is smart enough to figure things out yet humble enough to ask for help. Primarily a team player, and depending on the situation, Mark is capable of being either an Executive and/or Executing in the trenches as a worker. He is capable of working productively with anyone and any computing technology from any vendor. Mark already has experience with most common products.

Besides being a user of IBM PC and Microsoft Technologies since their outset, Mark was a PC, Unix & GNU software user plus support tech well before Linux came along. He has designed and built hardware (servers, clusters, workstations, routers, firewalls, cable plants) and has also designed and implemented complete integrated hardware and software systems including doing application and systems programming when needed.

Starting as a techie, Mark built one of the first ISPs, and also one of the first E-Commerce catalog businesses. He is one of the Linux community's original businessmen and evangelists. Mark is considered by Linux Journal to be one of the 100 founding fathers of Linux (independently verifiable on the web, search by his name).

Had primary responsibility for bringing this early e-commerce company from inception to profitability, into venture capital, then to its final publicly traded state. LinuxMall.com became the largest company of its type before its sale to EBiz Enterprises. Mark has handled all areas of Public Relations, Marketing, Sales, Software Development, Systems Development, Human Resources, Supply Chain and Finance. Keynoted PC Expo 2000

Founder, WorkGroup Solutions, Inc. (WGS) 1994-1997
Oversaw all areas of company business, including developing its software products, Linux Pro, AcctOnIt, 321 Contact, WEBworx, three programming tools for FlagShip called SQLkit, WebKit and FoxKit. Linux Pro won a Byte Magazine Best of COMDEX award in 1995. Mark was a regularly featured public speaker. WGS became LinuxMall.com.

CTO & Lead Consultant, Mosaic Business Systems

Held responsibility for all phases of MIS. Helped develop new systems for accounting, central corporate information management, remote systems management, and more. Advised company management on new technology. Worked with company clients in many diverse industries to help them automate their businesses. Included all phases of software engineering, and most industries.

Technology Advisor, Colorado Dept. of Education 1991-1992
Advised the Director of Education, who in turn reported directly to the Governor of Colorado.

President, General Computer Services, Inc. (GCS) 1984-1991
Advised technology professionals including computer dealers, consultants, and editors. Consulted with and created automation systems for companies across a large variety of industries. Created commercially packaged and sold software including Construction Management Software, two modules of Champion Accounting Software, PC Communicator, and more. In 1978, obtained what was then one of the world's largest Unix installation and consulting contracts with the State of Alaska. Created one of the world's earliest ISPs (Internet Service Providers). This included extensive programming.

Manager, ComputerLand 1982-1983
Sold the first 50 IBM PC computers within the State of Alaska. Managed Sales, Human Resources, PR, Marketing, Inventory and oversaw Accounting.

Field Engineer, IBM 1981-1982
Having scored second highest in testing of any new candidate worldwide the year he was hired, Mark was quickly trained to service nearly every model of IBM office equipment within his division. Later when the IBM PC was released, Mark recognized its potential. At the time IBM corporate said it would never be a mainstream product. So with management's help, Mark moved from IBM to Computerland for a greater opportunity to work with PCs.

Engineered, installed, and maintained private radio systems for client companies' vehicles and offices, including erection and maintenance of antenna towers and remote site generators.

Student Computer User and Support Specialist, 1976-1981
University of Alaska

Helped implement an early statewide multi-campus e-mail system. Created one of the world's first virtual PC user groups by writing the communications software UACNCAP for Apple II. The PC version, sold under the name PC Communicator, both are still in use by several universities. Worked on the computer system used in the development of packet protocols CSMA/CD, which are now the fundamental underlying protocols of Ethernet and the Internet.
