***Introduction: Feb. 22 Meet after church in the Fellowship
Hall to discuss activity.
***Beginning date: March 1 Draw names before services to begin
Secret Pal activity
***Ending date: To Be Determined (approx. 4 months duration)
***Objective: A "Secret Pal" is one who gives anonymous
gifts, cards, flowers, etc. to another woman in the Women's Ministry
group. The objective is to become better acquainted.
Upon arrival at church on March 1st, each woman who wishes to participate
in the Secret Pal activity will draw the name of another House of Faith Woman.
(Slips of paper with names will have been put into a "pot" for drawing.)
The name drawn will be your Secret Pal (SP). "A" gives gifts to
"B" who gives gifts to "C" who drew "D" who drew "A." Although it is
possible that two women may have drawn each other, it is improbable.
If you draw the name of a close friend, it is recommended that you ask if
you can redraw.
We will plan to end this activity at either the proposed retreat or at our
July luncheon. At that time the secret pals will reveal themselves to
each other. Do not worry if you cannot be present that day or if you
have not participated. We will make arrangements so that no one will
be left out of the enjoyment of the day.
Q. When does this activity start?
Answer: March 1st. This is the day that names will be drawn.
It is suggested that you bring a card with you that can be addressed and dropped
into the basket on the information table (see Q&A below).
Q. The purpose of this activity is to get to know someone. How
does this work if I know who they are but they don't know who I am.
Answer: This gives you an opportunity to get talk to them without
their being self-concious. Be creative.
Suggestions:
a. Ask a close friend, SP's husband or child for suggestions
b. Talk to your SP at church
c. Make a point to be in a prayer circle together at least once during
the coming months
(Continued on the back)
d. Be observant: Does your SP wear a lot of scarves, does she
like hair ornaments, etc.
e. Get together with a couple of other ladies to take your SP's to
lunch
f. Enlist your husband or friend to help you find out things
g. Invite your SP to visit your home along with others
Q. How do I get to know someone without their becoming suspicious
that I am their Secret Pal?
Answer: Although it is nice to keep it secret, it is not always possible
and really doesn't matter. Half the fun is trying to figure out who
your SP is.
Q. What types of gifts are appropriate?
Answer: You can use your imagination. Cards, small gifts (under
$5 are suggested), baked goods, homemade crafts, poems.
Q. How can I get the gift to my Secret Pal?
Answer:
a. Mail
b. Drop something onto your SP's chair at church
c. Ask someone else to hand it to your SP
d. A basket will be on the information table. Cards and small
gifts can be placed in this basket with the name of the recipient clearly
marked. Look in this basket before and after church to see if a gift
has been left for you. Any gift not picked up will be brought
back the following week.
Q. How often should I give a gift to my Secret Pal?
Answer: That is up to you. There is no requirement for how often
or amount spent. Consider what would give your SP enjoyment. People
like to receive gifts that are unexpected.
If you have any questions that have not been answered, you may contact Virginia
Bolzern at 303- - or Carolee Wise at 303- -
.
Due to input given at the February 15 meeting, several ideas have been incorporated
into the original plan. Please come to a meeting immediately after services
in the sanctuary near the piano.
***Beginning date for Secret Sisters: March 1 -- Draw names at today's
meeting after church.
***Ending date: On or around April 5th, our Secret Sisters will be
revealed. The Sharing Sisters activity will begin at that time to continue
a time for forming a deeper relationship with our sister.
***Objective: It can be fun to give (and receive) anonymously. It
challenges the creativity to find out about someone. Be willing to talk about
your likes and dislikes, your hobbies, your dreams. Each participant
will have two special sisters, one from who she receives and one to whom
she gives. Once our sisters are revealed to each other, we will have
increased potential for sharing and praying together. This and the
companion Sharing Sister activity supports our congregational vision by encouraging
us in closer relationships with those we may not already know well.
As we grow more comfortable with each other, it becomes easier to reach out
to others.
***Little or No Money Gifts: It is encouraged that we give gifts that
expend little or no money. Give cards (these can even be handmade),
baked goodies, a meaningful scripture, a word of encouragement, share a dream.
Thoughtfulness not quantity is the key.
Sharing Sisters Activity
For an additional time, we can continue to encourage, laugh, cry and pray
with our newly revealed Sister. We will call this period "Sharing
Sisters."
At our April quarterly luncheon, we will decide how long we wish to continue
this activity and any extra parameters that should be met. If you have
not participated in the Secret Sister activity but wish to join in Sharing
Sisters, you may do so. If you wish to participate as a Secret Sister
and then drop out, that is also permitted.
For further information or ideas, please contact:
Virginia Bolzern (303- - ) or Carolee Wise (303-
- ).
------------
I made a list with all the women's names and then cut them into strips to
put in a basket. Basically, everybody showed up at a meeting and I read
off names and got an okay to put them in the basket. A couple who couldn't
come had sent word that they wanted to participate. So we drew names
for them and they will be notified of whom they "got."
