CBC Women's Weekend Fellowship Spring 2003
(A Seminar Review by Virginia H. Lane)

These are my notes from the three sessions given by Karen Duncan,  Director of pastoral Care for Women at New Life Church in Colorado Springs.  She is also an adjunct professor at Charis Bible College, teaching Lifetime in Ministry.

Friday Afternoon, March 7, 2003

God is at work in our lives.  But he doesn't get frantic about it.

Women have sensitive, tender hearts.  Sometimes they get covered up through
hardships and disappointments.

Scripture (I didn't catch it)  "Be still and know that I am God."

We will do heart art this weekend.  Write down this statements "It's not
about the art, it's about the Heart."

This weekend, we are to listen to God.  Love lives on our heart.

Word of God--doesn't speak to the mind.  We are spirit, soul and body.  We
are busy trying to get knowledge (mind) and don't pay attention to the
spirit.  When you put the word of God in you, you increase the vocabulary of
the Holy Spirit.

People don't always act what they feel.  When we are hurt, we keep our
feelings in our heart.  Lest a root of bitterness spring up.  Love God with
your whole heart.

Prov. 13:12  Hope deferred make the heart sick.  Disappointments bring
weariness to our hearts

Prov 17:22  Not just our head--it's deeper.  Women rarely think of our own
hearts.

When a woman's heart becomes hard, they begin to lose their creativity and
femininity.  We have lost something.  God is our creator.

Prov 4:  Guard your heart.  Out of it flows the issues of life.

We (women) are verbal.,  But there are other ways to express ourselves.

Ps. 138:8  The Lord will perfect that which concerns me.  His power is
released on your behalf.

Phil 1:6  He has begun a good work--it will come to completion.  God's work
is continuous.

He is bringing about change in your life, a continual work.  He desires for
us to cooperate.  He'll perfect those things.

FIVE LONGINGS OF A WOMAN'S HEART
Every woman:
1. Longs to be significant (to feel special)
2.  Have a desire to be changed (transformed) from the inside out.

We are being changed in the likeness of Jesus Christ.

3.  Desires to transcend (to see the bigger picture) and live it out in life.
4.  has a desire to be set free from bondage.  Maybe nobody else knows the
bondage but God Knows.
5.  Desires to reach out and possess the land--the promises that God has for us.

God's will for your life is like taking a 12 hours cold medicine--time
release.  We walk in part of it and there will be another time release.

Some people only live in the last past or the future.  This makes us
discontent with the present.  The future is in God's hands.  God starts and
finishes things.

God is doing something good today.  God's "active now"  is doing
something good.

Scripture (I didn't get) v.10  God is doing an excellent work in your life.
Paul says "I am convinced" of this very thing.  No matter what is going
on--God's activity is.

So we begin to praise
Ps. 98:1  I will praise you with my whole heart.  Not just with a full heart
but with a healed heart

John 5:4-  Do you really want to be whole?  Do you want to become well?  Are
we in earnest about it? He is the author and finisher of our faith.  The bed
is a place of comfort.  Jesus said "Get off that bed."

God is doing something good right NOW.  He is perfecting those things that
concern us.

At the end of the first afternoon, we had to paint or draw something that represented 1)our primary role 2)our primary relationships 3) a recent disappointments 4) hope/dream.

Praise is an outward demonstration of what is in our heart

The songs for worship were:
Awesome in this Place
Rise up and Praise Him
Great in Power
Our Father
You are Holy
Great Renown

Kay LeFever  (CBC administrator)

CBC started in 1994.  The next year will be the 10th graduating class.

When God gets into our lives, then it overflows like a ripple affect onto
other people.  Your life is touched and overflows onto other people.

Karen Middlebrook -- Testimony

Ps. 24:7  let your Kingdom be expanded in me.  Let your will be done in my
life.  CBC teaches you to give
Phil 4:15

Penny Irwin -- Testimony

CBC equips you to do what God has put on your heart.  Fear of change,
unknown, etc. keeps us from doing things.

Ministry is relationship with Christ reaching out to other people.  Knowing
where you fit.

Linus (the head of CBC)  has a vision about dandelions.  Grow, blow, plant, grow

Rom 10:14-15  How can someone believe if they've never heard.
Eph 4:11-12  CBC equips

Karen Duncan  "Nurturing the Dream"

You can never outgive God.  When we worship God, he'll give us visions.

Ps. 24:7  The Kingdom is expanded by lifting up your heads.

Luke 13:11  When you can lift up your head, it's a sign of deliverance.  A
sign of freedom, love.  God doesn't want us to go around bent over.

It's not for ourselves that we are here.  It's for those who we will reach.

Jesus had a wonderful love for us.

Ps. 38:9

All of us have a dream but on the road there are things that steal our
dream.  We lose hope.  We get bowed over.  Having dreams has been lost to
our generation

Ps 37:4  God will give you the secret desires of your heart.  Is there a
dream in your heart you've never shared?  When you love God, those dreams
aren't wrong.  (Karen said she always wanted to write but never thought she
was good enough.)

God is tapping like an orchestra leader to call us to attention--we're too
busy to listen--we're supposed to make beautiful music together.

How many of us are just living in daily existence.  How has your dream
changed over the years?  As women, there are too many longings of the heart
that have been ignored.

Responsibilities can suffocate dreams.  Karen has gotten rid of most of her
belongings.

There's an anger that comes on the inside because dreams are suffocated.
The longings in our hearts are our heart's desire.

God delights in doing the impossible.

We lose our innocence upon the way but God delights in doing the impossible.
To avoid failure, we don't dream any more.

Luke 11:13  WE are only limited when we fail to ask Him.

There is accountability.  What friends are for.  Look at what we have "let
go" and ask God to restore.  Dreaming has to do with Being free.  We need to
be free to let the Holy Spirit lead us in the right direction.

Ask God to show you a vision in your heart.  Scripture in Isaiah that I
didn't get.  He will cause the desert to bloom.  Paint your vision.

All Things are Possible
Rock of Ages
I walk by Faith
My God can Never Fail
Step by Step
I Love you Lord
Dwelling
I will Never be the Same Again

Karen Duncan

There is a joy we have when our conscience is clear.

Whenever you start out in ministry, you learn to be creative (finances are
usually tight).  You learn to do many things with what you have.  Stretch it.

Ps. 27:1  Darkness can mean confusion and disappointment, frustration.  It
is inevitable that the enemy will strike.

Eph 6:10-  This is a personal attack; the enemy has strategies.  he knows
our weaknesses.  Attitudes open the door.  We need to be ready against this
personal attack.  It is important to do things in our lives that make us strong.

Sometimes we need to be still and enjoy the Beauty of God--to find peace in
that.  Shield of Faith.  if the devil can steal your faith, it's easy to
give up.  The devil wants us to question God.  WE stop believing in the
goodness of God.  We begin to feel like we can't trust God to take care of
us.  Remember God has a good plan for your life.

Jer 29:1  Thoughts were good, not evil

Ps. 45:11-15  The enemy cones to steal your hope, vision and dreams.

Ezek 16:4-  Nobody ever wanted us but then Christ went by.  He wants us to
give our body (reflect His glory).

We are to be free so we can allow the Holy Spirit to draw us in His
righteousness.  God delights in doing the important.

God has a plan for our lives.  God wants us to be fruitful.

We need to be prayerful about the vision God has put on our heart.  WE need
to be accountable to someone.

Spiritual gifts are mentioned in Romans, Ephesians and Corinthians.

Ps. 138:8
Eph 1:   It's in Christ that we find out what our gifts are.

God is serious.  He wants us to find our place in the body of Christ.

We give Glory to God when we lift up our gifts.

We destroy the Beauty God has given us when we say "I am no good, I can't."

What is the vision of how God sees you on the inside?   In 3-Dimensionk, make something representative of how God sees us.
